The AFS Free Day was successfully completed on September 11.

AFS services will be offline and unavailable from 7 a.m. on September 11 through 7 a.m. on September 12. Any service that depends on AFS will be impacted.

Websites hosted on the www cluster with HTML pages in AFS will be unavailableNote: the unc.edu WordPress site and all the sites.unc.edu and web.unc.edu WordPress sites will be unaffected.

The AFS service has been on campus since 1996. In those 22 years, a lot of services came to depend on it. While many of those services have transitioned away from AFS, it’s possible unanticipated dependencies still exist. We’d like to identify those dependencies prior to November 13 when the AFS service will be retired.

In conjunction with CTC, we are planning for a town hall-style event during the end of August to talk about the AFS Free Day and to discuss the general impact of the AFS retirement. Stay tuned for further details.

Great! You want to find hidden dependencies well before the November 13 retirement date. ITS will staff a quick reaction team September 11 to rapidly address impacts on business-critical services.
